Margao: Bookings for inbound trains to Goa have been made till May 25, regional railway manager for Konkan Railways Corporation (KRC) Balasaheb Nikkam informed on Monday.
“Commuters have booked tickets for only one train, which is the Rajdhani Express, which will arrive from Delhi and halt in Goa. There is no other train booking done for Goa. If the Centre decides to stop train service to Goa, we will adhere to the order, said Nikkam while speaking to this daily over phone from Mumbai.
“The worry of the people of Goa is justified. The state government has to convince the Centre about it and if the Centre decides to stop, we will willfully follow the orders, he said.
Meanwhile, twenty-one passengers, who alighted from the Rajdhani Express at the Margao railway station, were tested for Covid-19 through the rapid testing facilities put up at the new district hospital on Monday.
Earlier, the passengers were brought to the hospital by KTC buses. Later in the evening, the passengers were quarantined in a hotel in Margao.
Interestingly, around 60 commuters boarded the train on its way to Kerala. Also, in the evening around 1,500 stranded migrants from Madhya Pradesh boarded the Shramik Express train, which included those who were kept at the Xeldem shelter home.
Sources informed that the MP government has paid for the train service to take back their natives stranded in Goa due to the lockdown.
