Clamour to stop train halts grows louder #IndiaNEWS #Goa News
Panaji: In the wake of rise in number of COVID-19 cases during the last three-four days in the state, ruling MLAs on Monday strongly put up a case before the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant not to allow a halt of any train in Goa.
Some ruling legislators have also objected to the entry of people from other states, who have their second home in Goa and demanded not to consider house tax receipt as a proof that they are residents of the state.
A meeting of BJP and its alliance MLAs was held at the Chief Minister’s official residence on Monday. The ruling MLAs at the meeting chaired by the Chief Minister discussed the current situation in Goa in the wake of rising cases of COVID-19, halts of trains at Margao railway station, phase four of lockdown, the board exams of SSC and HSSC to start from this week and other related issues.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Minister for Ports Michael Lobo informed that all ruling MLAs have expressed concern on the rising COVID-positive cases in the state after movement of railways and especially detection of cases who arrived by trains at the Margao railway station and were of the opinion that no train should be allowed to make a halt in Goa.
“The Chief Minister informed us that henceforth Rajdhani Express train will not stop in Goa, but Nizamuddin express train will continue to take halt at Margao railway station. However, all MLAs have demanded that the government should not allow any train to stop in Goa, he said.
Lobo said that the ruling legislators have told the Chief Minister that people from other states should not be allowed to enter Goa merely on the grounds that their second home is in the state.
“We have limited healthcare infrastructure, doctors, nurses and other medical facilities in the state. If we allow people from other states and number of COVID-19 positive cases goes on increasing like past four days then we will not be able to exercise control and the situation will go out of the government’s hand, he said.
On board exams, the ruling MLAs supported the government’s decision on conducting SSC and HSSC exams as per schedule by following social distancing norms.
Some MLAs suggested to the Chief Minister to consider the demand of small restaurants and bar owners to allow their businesses to restart as the government has already allowed operation of wholesale liquor shops.
