1055 migrants leave for JK #IndiaNEWS #Goa News
Mapusa: Yet another Shramik train departed from the Thivim railway station in Bardez taluka on Sunday for Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir, carrying 1055 migrants from that region.
In all, 992 passengers who lived in North Goa and 63 migrants from South Goa boarded the second Shramik train, which was flagged off at the railway station at 8-05 pm.
Interacting with media persons, North Goa collector R Menaka confirmed that 1055 migrants boarded the train to leave the state.
Members of an association representing the people of Jammu and Kashmir living in Goa had contacted the authorities, requesting them to make arrangement for travel back to their native region.
“Accordingly, arrangement were made after getting details on the number of people seeking to travel back home,� Menaka said.
On Sunday morning, the migrants were ferried to the Peddem Sports complex from different locations in the state. They were medically checked and were given fitness certificates. Kunal, nodal officer for the interstate migrant cell, was also present on the occasion.
The passengers, who were given food packets for the journey, will alight from the train in Udhampur.
“The district administration in Udhampur has been informed, and they will make necessary arrangement to ferry the passengers to their native places,� she said.
Most of the migrants travelling to Jammu and Kashmir are businessmen dealing in Kashmir arts, handlooms, jewellery and other trades in Goa.
