CCP cracks down on discharge of sewage into Caranzalem nullah #IndiaNEWS #Goa News
Panaji: Taking a precautionary measure against vector-borne diseases in the monsoon, the Corporation of the City of Panaji has sealed four sewerage pipes attached to four apartments at Caranzalem for discharging sewage in a nearby nullah.
City mayor Uday Madkaikar disclosed this to ‘The Navhind Times’ on Sunday and said that these apartments had been releasing sewage into the nullah, which has been the main reason for spread of dengue in the area in the recent past.
The mayor directed the health department to issue notices to people living in other apartments in the area to stop releasing the waste water into the water body.
“Otherwise the corporation will have to seal their sewerage pipes too, Madkaikar warned.
Giving details of the crackdown on the four apartments, he said, “We had received a complaint from the people that the apartments had been releasing the sewage into the nullah. Consequently we conducted an inspection of the area and found that the apartments had been discharging the sewage into the water body.
Consequent upon the inspection, the matter was discussed with CCP commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues and health department officials and a decision was taken to seal the sewerage pipes of the four apartments.
Meanwhile, the precincts of places of worship in the city, including the Mahalaxmi temple, the Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church and the Jumma Masjid, were sanitised under the initiative of Panaji MLA Atanasio Monserrate.
