A total of 126 tigers died in India in 2021, data from the National Tiger Conservation Authority showed on Thursday. It surpassed the record high of 121 deaths reported in 2016.This was also the highest number of fatalities recorded in a year since the authority started compiling the data in 2012. The authorities said that the majority of the tigers had died of natural causes over the decade. Some were killed by poachers, while few others fell prey to the man-animal conflict.
