Pre-monsoon works will be largely affected: city Mayor #IndiaNEWS #Goa News
Panaji: The movement of migrant workers to their native states in view of the countrywide lockdown is likely to have a huge impact on Goa’s economy. Addressing media on Tuesday, city Mayor Uday Madkaikar said if the migrants start moving out of Goa in large numbers, many sectors in the state would be affected.

With monsoon approaching soon, many people will face problems while undertaking house repairs and other pre-monsoon works, as there will be a labour shortage in the state, he said.

“There are thousands of workers engaged in domestic work, construction, masonry, skilled and unskilled work in tourism industry, mining, fishing industry, hotels, lodges, shacks and also in road works, sewerage, laying of pipes, drainage etc. If they start leaving during this part of the season, it will have a bad impact on the economy and development in Goa since ours is the fastest growing and developing state in the country,’’ the Mayor said.

He said the Corporation of the City of Panaji Tuesday raided a shop dealing in gutka in the municipal market and fined the shop owner Rs 1,000 for violating the norms. Two bags of gutka were seized, he added.
