Mapusa: After stranded truck drivers, Mapusa police again
reached out to around 500 migrants in distress at Saveywaddo in Guirim.

A team of Mapusa police led by DySP Gajanan Prabhu Dessai
along with Mapusa PI distributed around 150 bags of rice, dal and papad through
sponsors. According to information available, around 500 migrant labourers, who
depend on daily earnings to feed their families, are in distress at Guirim due
to lockdown in the state.

With having no money to buy eatables and other
essentials, they had approached local ward member and deputy sarpanch Sunny
Nanodkar, however, since they are large in number it became difficult to
arrange adequate supply of essentials for them

On Tuesday, Mapusa police was informed about the
situation wherein DySP Gajanan Prabhu Dessai along with Mapusa PI Tushar
Lotlikar arranged for sponsors and accordingly around 150 bags consisting of
rice, dal and papad were distributed along with Abdul khan, who has lent
support.

Attempts are also made to tie up with NGOs like Aastha
and some stores to make available essential commodities to the migrant workers.
Anjuna police, led by PI Suraj Gawas, also reached out to around 50 labourers,
who were in distress at Siolim and provided them with lunch on Tuesday.

Police also handed over grocery items to them. Apart from
this, Anjuna police is also extending help to foreigners who are stranded in
the coastal village.

Pernem police, led by PI Sandesh Chodankar, has also been
on his toes to provide assistance to labourers and as well as foreign tourists who
are stranded due to lockdown.

On Monday, Pernem police reached out to around 50 such
workers who were without food at Morjim and provided them with eatables and
also established a network of local volunteers and shopkeepers for the benefit
of the stranded people.
