Samsons century goes in vain as PKS win by four runs
Mumbai: Sanju Samson’s (119, 63b, 124, 76) brilliant century went in vain as Punjab Kings held their nerves to win by four runs the game against Rajasthan Royals played Monday. The Royals needed five runs off the last ball of the innings which was bowled by Arshdeep Singh. Trying to hit a six, Samson was caught at the extra-cover boundary by Deepak Hooda.
Among the PKS bowlers Mohammed Shami (2/33) and Arshdeep Singh (3/35) stood out. PKS had shelled out a total of Rs 22 crore for the two Australian pacers Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith. The two in their eight overs went for 104 runs and picked up only two wickets. In reply to PKS score of 221 for six, the Royals finished at 217 for seven. Samson may well rue the single that he did not take in the penultimate ball of the innings. It made his task doubly difficult.
